A venerable favorite: snake jewelry – a motif that is one of the oldest, most widespread, and frequently utilized symbols in jewelry design. It’s distinct characteristics and unique shape shifting abilities have long inspired creative renderings by artists and jewelers. Serpent mythology is as potent, rich, and diverse as the jewelry made in it’s likeness. 18 karat gold created in a high relief, textured pattern implies scaly skin. Sixteen rose cut diamonds surround a bezel set, blue and green opal center stone. Two lucent, pink cabochon eyes pop in contrast and slightly protrude out giving this mythical snake some wonderful angles. Interesting fun fact: This piece was made outside of France but for importation into France. This is evidenced by the “owl” mark on the outside of the shank- which can be seen in the 5th picture.
