Not only is this piece extremely old it is very rare! The majority of pieces during this time period are mourning jewelry- remembering someone that has passed. This is a celebratory brooch, evidenced by the white background and the engraving on the back. The engraving reads “A memorial of affection presented to M A Capel by her seven children on the twenty-fifth anniversary of her marriage June 9th, 1856.” There are “7” locks of hair presented in a floral form with small seed pearls and gold accents. The brooch is in exceptional condition for being almost 170 years old!
