Signet rings date back at least to the second half of the thirteenth century, when the signet ring was a small seal used for formal or official purposes. In most cases, it was used to substitute for a signature on official documents in a time when few people could write. Signet rings are still popular today, but worn for mainly for fashion. This particular ring was made by Tiffany | Co around the 1890’s. Embossed into the ring, is a shield framing a standing lion on the top, while the bottom is solid lines alternating with lines of textured gold. Lions typically stand for fierce courage and often used to represent a great warrior or chief. There are engraved initials on the inside of the ring, along with a date of 7|9|90, and also a Tiffany | Co signature. Currently, the ring is a size 9, but sizing is available upon request.
