Celebrate June’s Birthstones with Lippa’s Estate and Fine Jewelry

At Lippa’s we believe every gemstone tells a story—and June is a month that sparkles with exceptional charm. Uniquely blessed with not one but three birthstones, pearl, alexandrite, and moonstone. June offers a versatile palette for those born in the month!

Pearl: A Classic Symbol of Elegance

Pearls have long stood as a symbol of purity, wisdom, and wealth. Unlike most gemstones formed in the earth, pearls are born in the sea, created within living oysters. Their natural luster and understated elegance have made them a staple in jewelry for centuries.

At Lippa’s, we specialize in sourcing exquisite antique and vintage pearl pieces, from Edwardian era strands to Art Deco brooches, that reflect the timeless allure of this organic gem. Whether you’re drawn to white, creamy, pinkish, or mysterious black pearls from the South Pacific Ocean, there’s a story waiting to be told.

Did You Know?

1) Pearls are the only gemstone made by a living organism and don’t require any cutting or polishing to reveal their natural beauty.

2) In 1917 Pierre Cartier traded a double strand of natural pearls for a mansion located at 635 5th Ave. which is currently the home of Cartier in New York City. The necklace back then was valued at $1,000,000.

Alexandrite: A Rare and Magical Marvel

Discovered in Russia in the 1830s and named after Czar Alexander II, alexandrite is famous for its dramatic color change, green in daylight and reddish-purple under incandescent light, also referred to as “emerald by day and ruby by night”. This chameleon like quality symbolizes duality, making it a favorite for those who embrace transformation and mystery.

Fine quality alexandrite is incredibly rare, our curated collection occasionally features this remarkable gem. At the time this blog was published we currently have 2 oval alexandrites in stock with significant color change from green to red. One weighing 0.45 carats and another weighing 0.75 carats, both accompanied by GIA reports stating the origins are Brazilian for each stone.

Jeweler’s Tip: Alexandrite is a durable gemstone, making it an ideal choice for heirloom, quality pieces meant to last generations.

Moonstone: Ethereal and Enchanting

Moonstone, with its dreamy adularescence (a soft, glowing sheen that moves with the light), has long been associated with moonlight, femininity, and intuition. A favorite among Art Nouveau designers, moonstone continues to captivate modern collectors.

From delicate vintage pendants to bold bohemian rings, moonstone’s mystique shines in every era. At Lippa’s, we treasure moonstone jewelry that captures the artistic spirit and spiritual beauty of this celestial gem.

Fun Fact: In ancient times, people believed moonstone was formed from moonbeams. Today, it remains a symbol of new beginnings and inner clarity.
