The ‘New Art” era as the translation goes was created in France. On the heels of the Victoria era, the Art Nouveau era did not last long. It came right before world war I. The pieces were often very colorful and vibrant. “It was a short-lived period in jewelry design, lasting only about 15-25 years because of the onset of World War 1 and because the pieces were so over-the-top that people quickly lost interest in them.” (2) Much of the jewelry was made to have a ‘natural’ look and feel, depicting nature and animals using colorful enamel and primarily yellow gold.
